Madison's Marvelous Mobile Mittens

I've finished making Madison's Marvelous Mobile Mittens!
Madison gives these mittens 'two thumbs up'

My friend Madison needed new mittens, and as Madison does a fair bit of texting on her mobile phone, I designed these for her, knit with the fluffiest alpaca she could find, specifically, Knit Picks Suri Dream.

These mittens, worked from the cuff up, are convertible with flip-tops, and also have flip-top thumbs for easy and warm texting in the winter. I had previously modified an existing pattern to make something similar for another friend, but I wasn't completely satisfied, so this time I started from scratch and ended up with these.

The pattern is now available for sale (2$) through Ravelry!

I know there are already a few convertible mitten patterns available for sale, but these ones are fluffier. These mittens are also very well-behaved; the flaps stay in place quite well to cover the fingers and thumbs.  They'd work nicely in mohair too, in which case they'd be Madison's Marvelous Mohair Mobile Mittens, unless of course your name is not Madison, in which case, some alliteration may be lost in the process.

  1. How did you like knitting with the suri dream? I can't find the plymouth baby alpaca brush I love locally and I'm considering a knitpicks order. xoxo!

  2. Hi Futuregirl! Thanks for coming by! :)

It's pretty nice stuff, fluffy, soft, and you can still see your stitches for the most part despite the fluff (well enough that I didn't go cross-eyed counting rows anyhow). Though, I have to say, it was well worth having a bit extra, as it does not frog well. I wouldn't classify it as super-bulky like they do; I treated it as a sport-weight gauge-wise and it came out about how I expected (reasonably dense without being stiff).
