Presenting a Pair of Perfectly Pleasing Popinjays

I would like to present my new pattern, Popinjays, which I'm pleased to say is a part of the Knit Picks Independent Designers Program:

Popinjays are a pair of stranded-knit hand-warmers featuring a juxtaposition between warm-weather tropical birds and cold-weather Nordic knitwear.

Sizing is achieved through the use of different sizes of yarn: Palette fingering for small, Wool of the Andes Sport for medium, and the worsted weight Wool of the Andes for Large.

While working on my holiday knitting in the frosty fall, I found that my hands were too cold to knit in the car, and began a pair of hand-warmers to remedy this. Indulging in my favorite pursuit—stranded colorwork—I took inspiration from a pair of popinjays (the heraldic term for parrots) featured in a sample of 14th Century Italian fabric.

The floral motifs and bright colors are a cheerful reminder of warmth and life in the midst of a cold, long winter, and I feel like a bit of a popinjay myself, both knitting and wearing them.

I would like to thank Stephanie Rodgers for proofreading, Jaime Lees and Beverly Feddema for photography, Knit Picks for being excellent to work with, and my dear husband for being a good sport and model.
