Soccer, Soccer, Soccer, Soccer, Soccer, Soccer, Soccer

Nothing to see here today; it's all just soccer, soccer, soccer. The Women's World Cup (which my country and city will be hosting soon) has not even started yet, but every day is soccer. We'll be heading to one of the World Cup matches, which will be exciting, but in the meantime, tonight's a double-header. First my daughter's team plays, then I do, then each of them have soccer on the weekend before next week's soccer schedule starts up. I'm coaching one daughter's team, and assistant-coaching the other as well as playing on my team, so it's soccer, soccer, soccer all week.

As much as I love soccer, I can't wait until July.

I do have plans to at least work on my Firth Waves cushion this week, so um, photos soonish? I hope?

Hup Oranje!

Well, it's been exciting watching the Dutch team in the World Cup, and often suspenseful, as they are often apparently waiting for the last twenty minutes to get some goals; nerve-wracking, that!

While cheering the team on, I've been working on the Oranje Cardigan by Ann Weaver (love this pattern). I'm now up to the yoke, nearly at the yoke charts (but not quite). Will I finish by the end of the World Cup? Maybe. I've set it as a goal by entering in a knitalong of WIPs (work in progress) in the WIP Cup on Ravelry. It had been languishing for a good month while I worked on sample-knitting, so the World Cup was a great excuse to pull it back out and get going on it.

There's a lot more to do after the yoke, including steeks, sewing facings, weaving-in, button-band, sewing buttons...but finishing in time is not impossible anyhow!

My garden is also celebrating the Dutch soccer team:

I love my Orange Irises; they're such show-offs!

Hup Oranje!

I finished knitting Hup Holland by Tori Seierstad a while ago, but finally have some decent photos.

I took the first set right after finishing, but it's hard to get photos of your own head:

Also, the hat gave me a headache, so I re-blocked it, this time stretching it over a size 3 soccer ball.

My head is apparently the size of a size 3 soccer ball, because now it fits just fine, which is a relief. After all that work, not being able to wear it because it gives me instant headaches that last the rest of the day would have been a pity.

I had my husband snap photos instead this time, which worked much better:

Now, just looking forward to the opening ceremonies for the EDSA Mini World Cup next Wednesday!

In Which I Steal a Few Moments to Post

Just a quick post today as it's a busy week.  Football training is intensifying (important match coming up), my oldest is turning four, so we're having a party on the weekend, and I have all manner of preparations and cleaning to get through.  That, and I'm trying to fit in watching World Cup soccer, so it's just as well that the kids have been waking me up early enough to watch at least part of a match over breakfast.  I'm showing the kids match highlights on the other half of the screen so that they'll let me prepare this post.

I quickly snapped a few WIP photos, so they're not top-notch, but they're here.

My husband's socks
(Seeded Rib Socks by Ann Budd
only in fingering weight instead, Knit Picks Stroll).  I've finished one, but am just casting on the second.

And, something for me:
(Farmer's Market Cardigan by Connie Chang Chinchio in Patons Classic Wool)

It doesn't look like much yet, but I'm really enjoying this project, and really like the colour of the yarn (Cognac Heather).  I do so love heathered yarns.

I've also finished a project for my daughter's birthday, that being the tool-belt by Mellissa Abreu from One Yard Wonders.  I'm pleased with the results.  I modified pocket positions and sizes to better fit her tool set, and added a hammer loop.

OK, glad I had a chance to post, but now it's back to soccer and housework!
